Mogem Losun Miri or Mangalore Southekayi garlic pepper- is a Udupi, Mangalore style recipe. A unique traditional recipe with a nice aroma and great taste.
This vegetable is called in different names as per the region, Mogem or Magge in Konkani, Mangalooru southekai in Kannada or also called as Madras Cucumber.

This is a Mangalorean Konkani traditional recipe. Mogem is abundantly available in the coastal region which is a juicy vegetable. The aroma of garlic and pepper makes delicious and it makes perfect combination with rice.

Ingredients
1 Medium size Field Marrow
- For Grinding
6 long coconut pieces
5 red chillies
4 garlic cloves
8 peppercorns
1/2 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp jeera
1 1/2 tsp coriander seeds
Small lemon size tamarind
2 onions
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Other ingredients
2 tsp jaggery
half lemon size soaked tamarind
Salt
- For seasoning
3 sprigs curry leaves
1/2 tsp mustard
4 garlic cloves
Directions
- Dry roast coconut as shown in the picture
- Grind all the ingredients (mentioned for grinding) to a fine paste. Clean the grinder/Mixer with little water and keep it aside to boil the field Marrow.
- Wash the field Marrow and cut into big pieces, make slits in between as shown in the picture
- Boil it with the water that is kept aside after grinding. Add jaggery, salt and tamarind water.
- Once the field Marrow is cooked add ground Masala cook for 10 minutes and turn off the flame.
- Heat oil in a seasoning pan add mustard, curry leaves and crushed garlic. Add it to the curry
